Overview
Benpocket is a local-first personal desktop toolkit. This policy explains what happens with information when you use the Benpocket website (https://benpocket.com) and the desktop application.
Desktop app — local data
The desktop app is designed to keep your work on your machine. Files you browse, HTTP requests you compose, Kubernetes cluster configs you open, and screen captures or recordings you create stay local unless you explicitly send them somewhere.
- Optional credentials (such as Cloudflare R2 keys or AI gateway settings) are stored locally on your device and used only by the app.
- Features that talk to third-party services (cloud storage, clusters, HTTP endpoints) send data only to the destinations you configure.
Usage telemetry
The app collects lightweight, anonymous usage events to help the team understand which tools are actually used. Telemetry is opt-out — a visible toggle in the app, on by default, one click to disable.
What is collected:
- An anonymous random install ID (not linked to your account or device identity)
- Which tools you open, once per session per tool
- Coarse completion signals — e.g. that a recording was exported (duration, format, which editing features were used), or that a screenshot was taken — never the content itself
- App version and platform (Windows / macOS / Linux)
What is never collected:
- File paths, request URLs, headers, or bodies; pod or cluster names; screenshot or recording content; clipboard contents
- Free-text, error messages, or stack traces
- Any identifier that links telemetry to the GitHub account used for optional sync — telemetry identity and account identity are kept deliberately separate
Opting out stops events from being sent and resets the anonymous install ID. Raw event rows are retained for a bounded period (approximately 90 days) before being pruned.
Optional sync
Benpocket offers optional GitHub-based sign-in to sync your tool settings and collections across devices. Sync is end-to-end designed so the sync backend cannot read your data. Signing in is entirely optional — the app works fully offline without an account.
Website
The marketing website is a static informational site. Hosting providers may automatically collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to operate and secure the site. We do not intentionally sell website visitor data.
Analytics and cookies
We do not run third-party advertising or marketing analytics pixels on this site. Theme preference may be stored in your browser (local storage) so light/dark mode persists across visits.
Open source and third parties
Source code is published on GitHub. Visiting GitHub or other linked third-party sites is governed by those sites' own privacy policies.
Children
Benpocket is aimed at developers and general desktop users. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the website or app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
